CT Pulmonary Angiography (CTPA) is a specialized imaging technique used to evaluate the blood vessels in the lungs, specifically the pulmonary arteries. It is primarily used to diagnose or rule out pulmonary embolism (PE), which is a blockage in the pulmonary arteries caused by a blood clot. During a CTPA, a contrast agent is injected into a vein in the arm or hand. The contrast material helps to highlight the blood vessels in the lungs and allows for better visualization of any blood clots or other abnormalities. The patient is then positioned on a CT scanner, and multiple images are taken as the scanner rotates around the body.
